Awards for military service in Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach were first established by Grand Duke Karl Friedrich on November 14, 1834. Officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers were awarded for their long and loyal service in the army. The award was established in two phases or classes over 20 and 10 years of service. In particular, the 20-year service award was to be given very rarely in the short term. Exact award figures are not known. These awards, according to the military convention with Prussia of June 26, 1867, were replaced by service awards in the form of buckles with a changed service life. The first form of service awards is extremely rare and also expensive. Source: Jörg Nemmergut, German Orders and insignia until 1945 3.
The cross is made of cast iron, painted black, in the shape of the Iron Cross. It is enclosed in a frame made of silver. The silver frame has a double degree. The inner edge is arched and cross-hatched. The side edges of the cross sleeves, unlike the Iron Cross, end in a medallion. From above in the center on the crosspiece is a soldered eye with a ribbon ring.
